When I first started listening to audiobooks while driving I'd lose the story all the time, not only when having to make driving decisions but when my mind would wander and I'd think about something else for a minute or two. This should be standard in podcast apps, ipods, and mp3 players like the kind Sansa makes. Once you switch to listening to audio at an increased tempo it is difficult to go back to the chipmunk voices. It's also nice you can set up the player to easily go back 30 seconds or whatever you like in case you think you misheard something in an interview or want to write down the name of a book mentioned or something. When listening to audiobooks or podcasts on the computer, I use SMplayer which changes the tempo of the audio when you increase speed, unlike most other media players I've tried. My personal preference is 1.2x for complex material and 1.4x when it is more for entertainment, 1.5x is just a bit too fast for me to keep up with, but I am usually playing games or browsing while listening to podcasts.
